Photography was one of my first artistic interests. When I was in sixth grade, my grandmother gave me an old camera of hers that I began to tote around everywhere I went. I took photos of everything — my family and friends, pets, my dinner, a flower outside — all of the time. As I got older, I realized that I especially loved portrait photography. I developed my photo capturing and editing skills through some classes, but mostly just repetition. When I was in high school, I started offering senior portrait sessions, and that was the beginning of Cate's Camera: my small portrait photography business. While this interest in digital photography developed, so did my interest in film photography (pun intended). I love analog — it brings with it a certain authenticity that cannot be achieved in digital photography. One shot (or 24, in my self-rolled film canisters) means mistakes can be beautiful. I learned how to develop B&W film, but color tends to be my favorite medium. Below you can see galleries of both my digital work and my film work.
